TGP’s Rachael shortlisted for national GP Award

A Torbay GP practice manager has been shortlisted for a top national award.

Rachael Lankshear, who is manager of the Brunel Medical Practice in Torquay, is in the running for Practice Manager of the Year at the General Practice (GP) Awards.

The GP Awards ‘recognise, highlight and reward the hard work and innovation that gets carried out in primary care across the UK’. Rachael will find out if she is among the overall winners when she attends the gala awards ceremony at the Novotel London West hotel on 8 December.

Dr Steph Bowler, a GP Partner at Brunel, said Rachael has helped turn the practice around since taking on the role.

Steph said: “When Rachael arrived in 2019, she met a de-energised team. Like many practices the workload was overwhelming, and recruitment was a challenge.

“The fruits of her labour have culminated in the reappearance of a vibrant workplace. Rachael has introduced a range of initiatives that have benefited patients, clinicians and staff members, made workloads manageable and helped us recruit clinicians and partners.

“Outside of the practice, Rachael offers influence and represents primary care on the One Devon ICP, collaborative board and Torquay PCN, and is a member of the Torbay General Practice representative team. She is also involved in local initiatives to benefit care home patients and asylum seekers.

“She thoroughly deserves this recognition for her excellence as a practice manager and for breathing new life and energy into a dedicated but exhausted team.”

Torbay General Practice is an alliance of ten GP practice – including Brunel Medical Practice – in Torbay.
