TGP’s work

Torbay General Practice’s GP surgeries work together to provide robust, sustainable systems and services that benefit patients across Torbay.

This work includes the extended hours service, covid vaccination service and Care Home Visiting Service, which are all run and staffed on behalf of all the practices.

Torbay Care Home Visiting Service

The Torbay Care Home Visiting Service (TCHVS) is a specialist team of local NHS GPs, nurses, paramedics and pharmacists that support care home patients throughout Torbay.

The service aims to start treatment earlier and reduce hospital admissions among care home patients, while also supporting GP practices by reducing their workload.

It was formed by TGP to address local issues as the Torbay area has one of the highest numbers of care home beds in England and this patient group often has significant medical needs.

Enhanced Access Service

TGP’s ten practices come together to operate a Covid-19 vaccination service at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay.

The service is run and staffed by the practices, with booking managed by the NHS. Practices agreed to offer this service to the residents of Torbay as an alternative to travelling to Exeter or Plymouth in the early days of the programme.

To date, it has administered over 360,000 vaccinations at the centre to our housebound and care home residents.

The Enhanced Access Service meets the needs of Torbay’s population by providing evening and weekend appointments at Pembroke House Surgery in Torquay.

Patients can see a GP, nurse or other healthcare professional at a time that is more convenient to them, with appointments arranged through the patient’s own GP practice.

The service was introduced in 2018 and has adapted to meet the ever-changing demands of primary care.
